One World Shop, Hull
Fair Trade Policy
Hull One World Shop is owned by the charity WEFT, and the shop is a major statement in compliance
with the objects of WEFT, namely
- The Relief of Poverty
- The Provision of Education
The shop demonstrates that an alternative approach to trade,
trade based on mutual respect and partnership, is feasible.
So the shop is a Fair Trade shop,
and we strive to comply with the
Fair Trade Criteria.
Photographs on this site are provided as examples of the types of product that we make available.
Whilst striving to build long term relationships with our importers and the artisans who make the products
we aim to provide quality and variety to our customers. The range is, therefore, constantly changing.
It is not an organic food shop, although some of our products are organic.
It is not a "nick nack" shop although we do sell items in the £1 to £2 range
that are attractive to both children and adults.
The shop is a member of
BAFTS.
BAFTS.
Our membership of BAFTS is part of our guarantee to our customers that the products we sell are fairly traded.
See Fair Trade
or Links for more information.
Crafts Buying
We buy from importers chosen from the BAFTS importers directory.
Our policy is to buy a range of goods, consistently over time, that are popular with the customers.
In so doing, we build a relationship with the importer, and through them with the producers of the goods.
Hand made crafts are beautiful and often unique,
and whilst this makes the products very attractive it causes problems for some customers.
When an item is on display, that is usually our stock, and there are no more, and often we cannot order more.
When you are disappointed we are disappointed too, but we hope you will understand.

Musical Instruments
We have drums, we have shakers, we have ocarinas and we have

Stone
Cool to the touch, and beautiful to look at, our range of stone work is some of the most exquisite work in the shop.
So good, that much of it has had to be locked in a display case.
But if you have a genuine interest we will be only too glad to open the case for you.
There are small decorated boxes, desk tidies, worry eggs, pestle and mortar, figures, elephants,
or there is just a simple paper weight.
Hand Carved and inlaid boxes from india, smooth cool kisi stonework from Africa, figurines, elephants, desk tidies.
Mind you, they are a bit too heavy to send to the rellies in Australia.

Toys
is for anyone young at heart.
Bright jigsaws for little ones, soft toys for babies, whizzers, rainsticks, windchimes, spark plugs,
spinning tops and nodding animals.
Brightly coloured letters of the alphabet, and numbered dinosaur jigsaws.

Wood
Warm to the eye, but beautiful and intricate in the inlay work,
carved from fast growing shesham wood from India, this is one of our most popular lines of craft work.
There are small decorated boxes, desk tidies, letter racks, bowls, puzzles, infuriating hidden hinges,
the intricate inlay work is a delight to the eye.

Miscellaneuous applies to those items that don't have a full category of their own,
like juggling balls and rugby balls.

Food and Drink
Our buying policies for Food and Drink are designed to offer both an attractive range of food products
and to demonstrate the breadth of products that now bear the Fair Trade label.
This applies equally to beverages and cold drinks as much as it does to "eatables".
Our range is over 200 products bearing the Fairtrade label,
plus many Fair Trade products not subject to FLO schemes.
We have the full range of Traidcraft foods (not wine), plus Swazi Kitchen Chutneys, Jams and Marmalade,
